How does Migration Advisor work?
Migration Advisor resides on a Windows PC, makes a connection to an OpenVMS system via either telnet or SSH, gathers data relating to product installation history. That data is then output to a report for easy review.

What type of user interface is provided for Migration Advisor?
Migration Advisor is administered via a GUI that runs on the Windows platform.
How do I install Migration Advisor?
You can install on any PC that complies with the system requirements.
- Download Migration Advisor.
- Run the setup.exe
- On the Migration Advisor Welcome Screen, select Next
- Accept the license agreement and select Next.
- Enter your User Name, Organization, and select the desired installation option, select Next.
- Specify the installation folder, select Next
- Select Install
- Select Finish
What do I do once I have installed Migration Advisor?
Once Migration Advisor has been installed, you can connect to an OpenVMS system and perform a scan. For more information, please see the Migration Advisor Quick Start Guide.
Does Migration Advisor install any code on the OpenVMS system?
No, Migration Advisor is installed only on the Windows PC and makes a Telnet or SSH connection to the OpenVMS system.
What kind of backend does Migration Advisor use?
The data collected from the OpenVMS system is stored in temporary files that will be deleted at end of processing.
How is Migration Advisor licensed?
Migration Advisor is free for to use for the first 5 scans. After that, you must pay for an unlimited use license.

What are the system requirements and prerequisites for Migration Advisor?
Migration Advisor requires:
- Processor: 600-megahertz (MHz) Pentium III-compatible or faster processor; 1-gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor recommended
- Framework: Before installing Migration Advisor, you must download and install the .NET Framework 2.0 from this Microsoft Web site.
- Memory: 192 megabytes (MB) of RAM or more; 512 megabytes (MB) or more recommended
- Hard Disk: Approximately 350 MB of available hard-disk space for the recommended installation.
- A supported operating system version
- A Windows account with the appropriate privileges
- An OpenVMS account with the appropriate privileges
What versions of Windows does Migration Advisor run on?
Migration Advisor runs on the following versions of Windows:
- Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with SP4
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4 or later
- Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise, or Datacenter editions with Service Pack 1 or later
- Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP1
- Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Service Pack 1 or later
- Windows Vista
What Windows privileges are required to install Migration Advisor?
The Windows account needs to have Local Administrator privileges on the Windows PC where Migration Advisor will be installed.
What versions of OpenVMS does Migration Advisor support?
Migration Advisor supports the following versions of OpenVMS:

What OpenVMS privileges are needed to use Migration Advisor?
An account that has interactive access with READALL and SYSLCK privileges is needed to gather information from the OpenVMS system.
What is the overhead on the OpenVMS system when running Migration Advisor?
There is overhead, however it is very minimal due to the small amount of data being collected. To determine the overhead, one would have to run a specific benchmark with the user's policies and user environment.
